2018 To-do List.


I’m not a fan of New Years Resolutions because 1) most of the time they don’t last and 2) you don’t have to wait till the new year to make a change. Having said that, I will write about my to-do list for 2018 – I’m a fan of those. (To be fair these are more-so reminders to myself of my core values in life.)

  1. Be present

This one’s been on my list for years now. It’s a tough one to crack in this hectic world that we live in. I’ve read so many stories of how people one day have this ‘ah ha’ moment and master mindfulness. I often envy their ability to ‘reach inwards’ or to ‘see the light’ while meditation. Meanwhile, I’ve been going at it on and off for 2-3 years with no avail. To be fair I haven’t really taken it that seriously until recent months. I used to just nod off or daydream during my 15 minutes of silence in the morning.


2. Self care the heck out of myself

I have the tendency to ignore my body’s cry for rest and push on regardless. I’ve learnt the hard way that this will only result in it fighting back. So now I listen to my intuition, because my body knows what’s best for it. I enjoy movement because I want to – not because I have to. I nourish my body with wholesome food because that’s what makes me feel best. I let myself be a potato and lie in bed watching Netflix on the days where I feel off. I treat my body like the glorious temple that it is.

3. Reduce waste

I’ve been trying to do this for a while, but I always get lazy and buy prepackaged produce instead of going to the local farmer’s market because it’s more convenient. I still occasionally get drinks while I’m out despite knowing that I’m creating unnecessary waste. I still buy things that I don’t need. I want to make more of an effort towards having a zero waste lifestyle.

4. Detach from materialistic items

Easier said than done. We live in a society where people base their worth on their wealth. Yes, we ultimately do require money to survive, but getting a new phone or another designer bag doesn’t add any fulfilment to our lives.

5.Believe in myself

Ah, the one thing that I struggle with so much; actually convincing myself that I can do things; that other people’s opinion doesn’t really matter that much in the grand scheme of things. If even you don’t believe in yourself, who will? Hold your head high and soon enough others will believe in you as well.

  1. Great list. I think we should all aspire to do the items on this list. Of course, I believe that believing in yourself, being present, taking care of yourself, all of these things are battle that are never won. You just have to keep fighting them. Over and over again. To be who you want to be is a privilege that has to be won against terrible odds.
